FAQ

When can babies start solid foods?

Most health bodies, including the WHO, suggest starting at about 6 months, and not before 4 months, once your baby shows signs of readiness: sitting upright with little support, holding the head steady, reaching for food and no longer pushing food out with the tongue.

What is baby-led weaning?

Baby-led weaning (BLW) means your baby feeds themselves soft finger foods from the start, instead of being spoon-fed purées. Many families mix both. What matters is a ready baby, safe preparation and an iron-rich food every day.

What is the difference between gagging and choking?

Gagging is loud, common and how babies protect themselves. Choking is quiet: your baby cannot cough, cry or breathe properly. If your baby is choking, call your emergency number and give first aid.

Which foods are choking hazards for babies?

Whole grapes, whole nuts, raw apple and carrot, popcorn and hot dogs are among the most dangerous. Cut, cook or avoid them as each food page shows.
